One of the smoothest Airplanes that I have ever been on.

The L-1011. That was one beautiful piece of work. The sound of the Rolls-Royce engines were amazing. Sometimes I wonder if progress is all it's cracked up to be.

That engine note is in perfect harmony with itself, sounds like a freaking choir and I love it. Nothing will ever beat the sound this plane made

One of my favorite planes to fly on! If it weren't for the trouble. Rolls Royce had with the engines it probably would have been as successful as the DC10. I was always afraid to fly in the DC-10.

This was one of the coolest aspects of flying in the 80s-90s (for me it was the 90s). You never knew what you were gonna get. One time I ended up on a DC-10 for a short hop from Boston to Detroit. We flew on a Delta L-1011 on the way to Disney when I was still practically a toddler. Another time, it was a 767 from Boston to Atlanta. More often you’d be in a 737-200 or some species of DC-9…but wide bodies were much more common so you’d occasionally wind up on something huge and completely unexpected.

As a kid we regularly took a Delta L-1011 on an 80 mile hop from Hartford to Boston before proceeding on to Bermuda. Crazy they would do that short hop with a widebody. That Rolls Royce engine sound send chills up my spine

An L-1011 neo with RR Trent 7000 engines, winglets and a fully glass cock pit would be nice.

It's astonishing reading all these comments with everyone sharing their memory of that incredible sound from the Rolls Royce jet engines. Once you hear it you can never forget it!

Not perfect by far, research Saudi Flight 162 (uncontrolled decompression), Saudi Flight 163 (in flight fire 301 fatalities), Eastern Flight 935 (uncontained engine failure, 3 out of 4 hydraulic systems failed), Delta Flight 1080 (left elevator jammed full up). The L-1011 was still better and safer than the DC-10.

Hace 15 años que no lo tengo, pero tuve un 405sri y no recuerdo bien si era la misma luz del cuadro, pero cambie el termostato y ya no salio mas, debio de estar mas de 100.000kms con el termostato en mal estado. Motor indestructible

Rolls Royce RB-211 is not the only engine to power the L-1011. It also powers the Boeing 747, 757, and 767. It was later developed into the Trent engine. The engine that we all know.

Thank you for sharing a wonderful video of the L1011. In the 80’s, I was fortunate to go nonstop from San Francisco to Miami on Eastern’s L1011.
